    COVID-19 Talk

Sigh. No. Its not an either or type of thing. Just because you shouldn't use regional numbers doesnt mean you go to county by county checkpoints. There are options in the middle.

if you think the protests in MI are bad, imagine how awful people would riot if we started doing county by county checkpoints

But even regional numbers shouldn't decide, thats still too big of a scope...in my opinion.

which is it? nationwide numbers decide, or local numbers decide? you're kind of flipping back and forth here.

they take daily national numbers and use that to train a model for local predictions? Sure. Its a good visual on spread, but its not complete. How can you put incomplete numbers into a model and expect a reasonable outcome? would you put incomplete numbers in one of your water line surveys and tell your work that its all good, that line wont be impacted if someone digs nearby?

No, not sort of. Cuomo shouldn't be looking at nationwide numbers to decide how to reopen New York State.

its not meaningless but its also not super helpful either.

I think the point being discussed is that we cannot trust the CFR numbers and use it as a good indicator moving forward. the data isnt complete. cases are going unreported. deaths are going unreported.

I think early stuff, CFR numbers, etc.

yes of course. but that narrative, again, is to be expected. if we hadn't closed down things and the death toll was 10x what it is now, you'd have people saying we didn't do enough and everyone in charge has got to go. there is no happy middle. and those who are happy in the middle aren't saying it out loud because they know their place.

ugh. there went my ability to agree. we destroyed lives! because we overreacted! ermahgerd can you even imagine the lives lost if we had continued business as usual in march?

Ha, get used to that narrative, friend. Its coming. Saw this yesterday and me laugh. spot on for many.

yes, but to be fair we don't have nearly enough data. phineas isn't wrong in that the current models and mortality rates, etc... are all showing a picture that isn't true to reality.
  15. SPC did great imo, with the risk areas too. 103 confirmed tornadoes so far from Sunday/Monday
  16. I’m pretty sure it’s PD3. I broke his account a while back (lol). Randy fixed it yesterday, but I had told him to make a new account. If it’s not him, then I don’t know Omg I meant to post over at pr about it. Dude...it’s great.

I think a backlog of local cases was released today. All surrounding zip codes have 1-3 cases. Yesterday all were 0

Whelp, my nice 0 case zip code is no longer at 0. 2 confirmed cases

As someone who works with data, all the time, I approve this post. I’m sure some of it may be impractical now, but in the end the more data the better!

I’m sorry! I know that has got to be so tough to explain This earlier convo prompted me to do that same. Before/after care is at liberty of schools, my private daycare lady has to be cleared by the state to open. I don’t believe she was deemed an essential at home daycare

Baltimore county hasn’t been great. We were supposed to get two weeks worth of stuff, last week. Still nothing. It’s online, but at first grade most of it needs to be done on paper. We’ve printed things as we’ve needed them. She gets one hour a week of face time with her class and teacher. Not enough, IMO. But I know it’s tough for everyone
