Decent rains. Some lighting/thunder now. Power was back 8:00 am this morning. Thank you Jcp&L. Hope the rest of you get power back asap. -
I'm in southwest Morris, night 2 of outage. Jcp&L has "dispatched and is investigating" per website. Keep in mind I respect these people tremendously, but no power on top of the Covid nonsense, plus a 7 month pregnant wife and a 3.5 year old...patience begins to run thin.

Out since 12:30. Had over 3.5" here. The flooding in long valley thru califon on the south branch of the Raritan was impressive. The water was hitting the bottom of my '03 expedition. I was amazed at people in small sedans trying to get through.

Genny up and running fridge and first floor window ac. Hearing "days" before it's back. Up to 9 transformers blown in the chester/mendham area. Took a drive post storm, long valley to califon extensive flooding. Had water hitting the bottom of the expedition. Watched small sedans attempt to get through it.

Lost a large black walnut, but it was on the list to chop down due to being hollowed out. 3.5" of rain and falling.

Radar has definitely filled in. I would expect by 11:00 am the bulk of central/notheast NJ to be in on the action. I have .5" from last night so far and am on the doorstep of the heavier returns.

Getting heavy rain now; the radar presentation is wild with 2/3 of the state missing this precipitation currently. I was expecting this to move east and run the coast line; always neat to learn something new.

After reading Walts analysis, I might start construction on the Ark and fire up the Genny just in case.

88/61; hot but bearable while mowing. Edit: Stopped for a Kane Head High currently. -
My own losses were roughly 30% last year; but its due to varroa mites. Every beekeeper has to deal with it. I had just never heard of a queen bee die off Something to keep in mind is that honeybees are a non-native species to the Americans. Agreed they are vital for pollination of many crops used, but as important (if not more so) are native bees i.e. bumbles. Everyone should buy houses for them for their own yards. Personally, in my opinion one of the biggest culprits are manicured lawns. I seed clover in my yard as hit helps with nitrogen fixation and drought tolerance (not to mention my bees love it), but my wife doesn't like it and is concerened my kids will get stung with increased bee presence. Fair points.

Where is this stat from? Just curious

Jumping in late on this convo, plenty of lighting bugs out this way. Also got my first nesting pair of blue birds, with babies. I'm looking into nesting boxes for screech and barn owls now. I need something to curb the chipmunk populations.

That Rutgers map is accurate for my location. Closer to 2.5", still raining. Southwest Morris near Hunterdon/Sometset.

Getting nice rumbles of thunder. Rain intensity has noticeably increased. Started around 11:00 am; perfect rate to let the water saturate.
