I see the official METAR for smoke is FU. Our air quality is sitting at 475 with visibility of only a few hundred yards. FU Canada.

And just like that it's sagged south on me. Zero wind, blue skies overhead, and a gray wall of heavy snow slowly drifting away to the south. Typical for lake effect I suppose. Highlight of the winter...so far!

Thanks for the images! It's still ripping snow but now the wind is way up too so any meaningful measurements are out the window. Front sidewalk blew itself clear, driveway is drifted 2-8" deep and counting. Typical for my place regardless of actual snowfall though. I thought today was going to be a decent melting day but I'm going to be out with the snow blower instead! I would guess we've gotten 2" just eyeballing rates and duration.

This skinny lake effect band streaking all the way across the state has been a stubborn little thing this morning! We've picked up an inch already and it keeps getting harder. Big flakes, quarter mile vis. My point and click forecast has 0-1% chance of precip. Sneaky little 'event'!

That is the 12z HRRR map btw, not the 12z NAM

Just hit 20", have been in the death band since mid-morning and have a chance of staying in it all the way through the pivot. Don't think this one's got quiiiite enough juice to match 2016 but we've got a real good shot at #2 all time IMBY. HRRR says still 7" to go which would beat '96 by an inch. -

Semantics but this was/is a blizzard for the Lehigh Valley IMO. Although not sustained 35+ it's an 8-9 hr duration of consistently gusting 35+ and a combination of heavy falling and ground blown snow. Total whiteout conditions at many points throughout the day. Anecdotally..the stop sign got ripped off the post in my front yard and my patio furniture is spread across the back yard. And the icing on the cake...this band coming through now might be the heaviest snow I've ever seen. Definitely one I hope I never forget. -

Puking snow in Nazareth. Vis 200 yards tops. Winds are howling. Other than a 30 min change to sleet around sunrise it's been snow the whole time. FWIW the HRRR has been real accurate with timing and intensity of banding here so far. Looking like 1.5"/hr rates another 4-5 hours. And then 1"/hr rates another 4-5 hrs after that. -

Snow has ramped up in the last 15 min. But even more so the wind! My windows are moaning like a bunch of cows. NWS point and click forecast has me gusting over 35mph the next 8 hrs. B word upgrade?? -
8.02" storm total, glad to be on top of a hill. Feel bad for those downhill/downstream. Can't remember the last time the scanner was this active. A lot of people dealing with heartaches and headaches. Help your neighbors, help a stranger, and be safe!!
