  1. They grow fast initially then slow way down. That's how the grain gets so tight. First picture is from today the second is from 1890 or so . Same trees (three trees on the left in the old picture)
  2. Here's an illustration of how strong. Watch the first few second . The tree explodes, never seen it with another species. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=556wi8ujaGc
  3. Perfect weather for working outside. Anything but rain is fine with me .
  4. Totally agree on the black Birch. When it's green it weighs a ton! Lot of wasted work to cut, haul, and split for a low quality wood. Yes Locust has a shallow root system. That's the only way they ever come down.
  5. Yep, they actually plant it where erosion is a problem. Grows anywhere.
  6. As the strongest timber in North America, black locust helped build Jamestown and hardened the navy that decided the War of 1812, yet today few Americans have heard of it. The nation's taste in ornamental trees has changed fairly dramatically since the first street plantings were made in Williamsburg, Virginia, in the 1730s.
  7. Highest BTU wood east of the Rockies. I don't have any problem splitting it with a hydraulic splitter might be a different story with a maul
  8. Bring the downriggers up a few feet and throw some Chum. Not a lot biting this morning.
  9. Whoa that's some serious ass rain. Thankfully we only got an inch around here. Ponds are topped off we don't need any more.
  10. Got a feeling I'm going to be roping some trees tomorrow ️ ☹️ I fall for it every time.
  11. Might be time to call Ray into service. Speaking only for my area very forgettable.
  12. My lights have been flickering. I don't think we had a gust much past 40 around today.
  13. Better and safer to simply rope them but I like to save time . Nothing around if things go wrong.
  14. Or at least they don't call the cops Shame on you RI (:
  15. CT welcomes Ma golfers thankfully.
