  1. Yep, what else is new. Had just a couple of showers here. Radar looked good, but what was on track to hit us good weakened. Another cell developed and missed me just to the west, going into Somerset county. The rain got moderate for a brief minute as I was near the edge of that cell. Not enough to water the garden. Amazing how many different heavy storms just missed me today. The luck is so bad it's comical. I'm looking at radar now and seeing another batch of storms moving SSE through Morris county, but it looks as if those will miss us slightly to the west as they move down into Somerset county.
  2. Those storms dropping south into Union county look as if they'll hit us shortly. Hopefully they won't find a way to miss us yet again. The garden could really use a drink.
  3. It's maddening. Another batch of showers/storms dropping down into northern Jersey now. Maybe they will hit us later, but I won't get my hopes up knowing our luck.
  4. All I can do is laugh when I look at radar right now. The downpour that went to the north of Plainfield. There's a downpour just to my west in Somerset county. One just to my east in southern Union/eastern Middlesex, and a downpour just to my south in central Middlesex county. Downpours missing in every direction, and my garden won't get water yet again. Hope something else pops up later that hits us, but I doubt it with our ridiculously bad luck.
  5. Yep, same old story. Heavy rain missing us to the north, east, south and west. It's almost comical how the downpours always miss us in every direction here.
  6. I hear it too. Really hoping that cell drops south to give us some much needed rain.
  7. It's mind-boggling how bad our luck is here. I came out of Shoprite of Piscataway and it was coming down in BUCKETS. Had to load the car in pouring rain. So I was hoping my vegetable garden got a good watering, but I get home (only a little over 5 minutes away from Shoprite) and see that the ground is only slightly wet. Just a little shower here, not nearly enough to water anything. Very irritating. I looked at radar and saw that one cell missed me a couple miles to the west and another missed me a couple miles to the east. Disgusting luck. Outside I go now to water the garden. Really irritating considering it was a deluge just a few miles away at Shoprite where I had to get soaked loading the car.
  8. Had 2 moderate showers, and it was starting to look as if we'd miss the heavy rain. But thankfully a downpour flared up on the northern edge of the precip. We just had a nice heavy downpour here to give the garden a decent watering. Almost a half inch of rain.
  9. But the 12z RGEM has an intense line of storms hitting NYC and most of NJ during the late afternoon. Hopefully RGEM is on the money instead of NAM.
  10. It's really getting annoying how the storms keep just barely missing us in Piscataway. Lots of thunder very close by today, but nothing more than sprinkles. The heavy rain keeps missing us by just a few miles. Places just to the south and east like Edison and just to the north like Plainfield keep getting the downpours while we get nothing. It's bone dry here and I just had to go out to water the vegetable garden again. I hope one of these storms hits us in the next few days. Really getting irritated with the bad luck.
  11. Very disappointing here. Just some light rain that didn't even deliver a tenth of an inch. I'll have to water the vegetable garden this afternoon.
  12. Actually yesterday Lee Goldberg said that the tropical storm tracking that far west of us is a main reason why we're going to have such great weather early to mid week, because it blocks things up and prevents anything from getting to us. Sunday through wednesday looks like a spectacular period. We need to enjoy it because as SACRUS said, after that it looks as if we'll go into an ULL type of pattern with lots of clouds and showery conditions for several days.
  13. I'd feel much better if I was in southern Middlesex County rather than the extreme northern part. It looks to me as if the northern part of the severe line will miss us slightly to the south, and we'll just be in that area of light-moderate rain that's to the north of the line and pick up maybe a tenth of an inch of rain. And last night I got only a quarter of an inch with the heavy stuff just missing me by a few miles. Was hoping for a good soaking, so this bad luck is frustrating.
  14. We had a snow squall here in Piscataway. Truly amazing sight for May.
  15. What amazes me is the temp on my thermometer reads 47 degrees with these flurries coming down. I've seen snow with temps in the low 40s before, but never the upper 40s. This is crazy.
  16. Some wet snowflakes mixed in here right now as the back edge of the rain moves through.
  17. 35-36 wouldn't be a freeze obviously, but we know that it's common for frost to form when temps get down to the mid 30s. So sensitive plants could be in trouble this weekend. Really glad I decided to not plant warm weather vegetables like tomatoes yet. I usually do in the first few days of May, but this year I held off due to this cold blast. Mid next week will be a good time to plant since we'll be starting a warmer pattern then.
  18. Early May is when I usually plant the warmer weather crops in my garden like tomatoes. I've done that for many years and have never had a problem, and I was looking forward to doing that in the next few days. But I'm a little concerned about the cold shot next weekend. Right now the long range stuff is indicating low temps in the mid to upper 30s for my area next weekend, which would be just above frost level but too close for comfort. Just a couple degrees lower than that and there could be a big problem. So I'm wondering if I should delay until after that. I've never waited until mid May to plant tomatoes before and that would be a bit frustrating, but thinking I might have to this year.
  19. That's nowhere near 20 degrees below normal. 10 degrees below at most, and less than that if we make low 60s mid-late next week.
  20. And again I don't think it will be a high in the 50s. I think it will be 60 to 63 mid-late next week, but we'll see. But yeah whether it's upper 50s or low 60s, it will feel ok.
  21. For our area mid to late next week it's looking like highs close to 60. Perhaps low 60s. Lows in the low-mid 40s. That's cooler than normal for May, but not so terrible. I think most of us find 60 degree weather fairly pleasant for spring. At least we'll be getting to the point that cooldowns will still be mild weather, rather than very cool weather. And before the cooldown we're gonna see low 70s this weekend, so that'll be nice.
  22. I agree with this. We will definitely go into a cool pattern after the warmer weather this weekend into monday, but it will be far from cold. Starting on 5/5 It looks like a lot of days with high temps near 60. Obviously that's cooler than normal for May, but 60 degrees is still decent spring weather and it'll be mild enough that we'll avoid frost at night except for well to the north and west.
  23. At least this April has been mild so far. Not to the extreme of most other months, but we are at least a couple degrees above normal to this point. It looks as if we're just gonna have 4 days of below normal temps now, and then we should get back close to normal for sunday into early next week. And as Don said, there are signs of above normal temps for late April. So overall I don't think we're looking at a cool April this year. Will likely end up slightly warmer than normal, which is an improvement from recent Aprils.
  24. Yeah the run that we had from winters 2002-2003 to 2017-2018 was amazing. Well above average snowfall in 11 of those 16 winters, and only 3 of them were below average. As you said we're due for a period of climo reality. Things tend to average out. I think next winter will really tell the story if we're out of the great snow cycle. It would be hard to argue that we're not out of the snowy cycle if we have a 3rd year in a row of below average, but if we bounce back the snowy cycle will still be intact.
  25. At the very least you can go outside for a nice walk or run. Lots of people here are walking and running around the block. More than I've ever seen before. You definitely don't want to be cooped up in the house. In addition to a lot of running, I'm also doing a lot of gardening in my back yard. Also driving to some nice places for hiking. Would drive me crazy to stay in the house.
