    Its all virgacadas now. Nothing hitting the ground and all the action is 50ft above us

    I might not be able to hear any other sounds this afternoon. It will be just cicadas. They could drown out a jackhammer

    My work office in Merrifield is still littered with newly emerged and brand new adult cicadas. So the process here shows no sign of slowing

    I keep wondering if there is any mixing between the broods and annuals. Not that they are attracted to each other’s song but they just bump into each other and because they look similar and it’s been 17 years.

    So far I haven’t been able to really hear the cicadas while sitting in the office. Today it’s much louder. I bet home will be deafening

    Half the weekend. Friday/Sat looking damp and temps still gonna be super cool for this time of year. Not great for pool or beach.

    I actually tried to document them in my cave drawings when we first discovered fire. Oog was scared of them and fell off the cliff when one landed on him. We fashioned jewelry from the shells and it was a form of currency.

    If you are lifting a truck then put the right size tires on them that dont stick out like Hot Wheels cars

    No. Earlier than that. I was part of the Jamestown settlement and we discovered them back then. It was a food source during the lean years.

    Millions of dead cicadas are starting to....smell. Theres a funk when you step outside IMBY

    If you stand under a tree with lots of shells around it you WILL get hit by falling cicadas

    Very loud this morning. Can hear them while sitting inside. Tons all over my trees and new ones coming out left and right. It’s stunning compared to 2004
