  1. I just missed the boat on March 2001, and wasn’t really following weather back then. Thank God for that, I would’ve been heartbroken and probably in tears. For me December 2010 was the most painful bust/screwjob ever.
  2. You should’ve told me you were up there. I just returned today after skiing Timberline yesterday, and yeah conditions were great like you said. I also met some really cool people during my brief trip.
  3. A very tragic story in Pakistan of people trying to visit a small mountain town just north of Islamabad during a big snowstorm, and then getting stranded and killed by carbon monoxide poisoning in their cars.
  4. It was right around 5” back home. Better than I expected, especially with that spectacular early morning band. The GFS really nailed it.
  5. This is definitely one of the better ones.
  6. The snow is still coming down here in Thomas WV, this time it is upslope. 10.5" and counting.
  7. It’s still snowing here in Thomas WV despite the radar. Upslope is a wonderful thing. Up to 9” now.
  8. Based on the way it looks on that radar I didn’t even have to go all the way to the mountains Absolutely breathtaking. It’s going to be a fun drive back home on Saturday.
  9. Wow what a breathtaking band on that radar. Amazing.
  10. Incredible. Makes me even more thrilled about Timberline tomorrow. Definitely helps that the station is at 3700'. Here in Thomas it's around 6.7". Hoping to crack double digits by the time it's done.
  11. How much do they have so far? The radar says they're getting demolished.
  12. Yeah it would have been difficult. My main goal was to arrive before it was dark, and I had just made it. Most of the drive was fine, and it was basically white rain in Cumberland and Keyser, but then it got treacherous above 2000 ft, especially around route 48. Thankfully my snow tires made it easy for me.
  13. Right around 5:30pm when I measured 1.5" So that makes it 4.5" in the last 3 hours, and it was really coming down a few hours ago. Great storm.
  14. Pretty good storm in Thomas, WV. 6" so far, temp 25 degrees.
  15. I'm also going to check out Timberline... never skied there before but with their improvements it should be a fun experience. Although not everything is open, I think conditions should be great after tonight.
  16. I've decided to go to Thomas, WV. It is near Davis and it should be a great spot for this storm.
  17. Let's just lock this up, what a glorious run.
  18. Ok, this might be worth staying up for. Incredible for whoever will get that.
  19. I think the average person tolerates snow as long as it doesn’t disrupt their life, especially their work or commute. There are some who absolutely hate the sight of all things winter, but I doubt that they’re the majority.
  20. For me it has to be a very big storm (MECS or HECS) to be worth staying up. I got up super early in January 2016, barely had any sleep, but still managed to enjoy the whole thing up until the very end.
  21. If it happens at rush hour and causes extra hazards, then maybe. But it looks like the snow should mostly be over by then.
  22. They have Canaan Valley resort and a much improved Timberline. I was at Canaan a few years ago, and it's a great place on a powder day.
  23. It's making a drive out west very tempting for me.
  24. I like the RGEM a lot better... that would be just about perfect. I try to enjoy the small ones but that half inch on the GFS is pushing it for me The RGEM seems to have a weaker initial NS disturbance on the H5 maps compared to the GFS, so we really need that to weaken.
  25. I am thinking of heading to Canaan Valley. Not sure yet, and it will be very cold. But I'm considering it, especially if it's going to be a solid 6"+.
