E PA/NJ/DE Spring 2022 OBS Thread
stemwinder replied to Hurricane Agnes's topic in Philadelphia Region
Thanks, Agnes! It was quite intense, and lasted for more than a few minutes. The hail may have been mixed with something else: graupel perhaps - Was glad to drive out of it into nice plain rain en route to New Brunswick. -
E PA/NJ/DE Spring 2022 OBS Thread
stemwinder replied to Hurricane Agnes's topic in Philadelphia Region
Yesterday, just after 4 PM, I was bombarded by an intense hailstorm. I was driving north from Princeton NJ, on Route 27. Noisy banging on my windshield, at least pea sized hail. Some lightning, but did not hear thunder. -
March 12, 2022 Snow Discussion and Obs: Winter's Last Appearance?
stemwinder replied to Newman's topic in Philadelphia Region
Got to watch it happen, rather than having it all happen in the dark. Only got an inch or so, but glad we got some real snow for March. Looking forward to 60's real soon. -
2/13 Light/Moderate Snowfall Nowcasting & Observations

Nice. To me, it doesn't really count unless it sticks in the streets. -
Rain to Snow obs for January 20th winter event
stemwinder replied to ChescoWx's topic in Philadelphia Region
A tail-end hint of something on a nearby spruce tree. Nothing else, even on car windshields. -
Nice picture. Down here in W Windsor NJ, it was nice to see flakes fly, but NADA, as far as any snow sticking. Not even on the trees. Enjoy your pittance, up there, since it's more than most of us got, I'll warrant.

Sorry to clutter the thread up with another comment, but you are one reason why I read this forum. At 85, I am still learning. BTW, to add to the mess, I am waiting for you to start the thread on next weekend's chances.

Might as well post this here too since Philly is mentioned. From 1972 until the end of 2003 I was on the West Coast, so don't have a good memory of the great storms I missed, obviously. The first one I remember since moving back is a nice Miller B(?) in Jan 2005. But there was a great storm in November 1950, and all we got in Jersey City was rain and no power. "The Great Appalachian Blizzard". Other storms behaved similarly, like one I remember in November 1953, where we got an inch of snow before it changed, but Philly got maybe 7". These storms cut too, although the synoptics may have differed. All of these storms have meteorological interest, regardless of how much snow they produce. - As long as I can get to the dentist on Tuesday.

Better all rain or a washout, than a slop fest that freezes. IMO.

Happy Birthday, Alice. From one who doesn't post much but who often gets hit by the Summer fronts at the same time!. Lurking just to your Northeast. May you have a long wait before you start creaking like me.

Good to see. Here just across the canal from Princeton, nada, although Wunderground is showing snow. Just a little white stuff would be nice.

Mercifully, if I remember correctly, the 1965-6 records were set at the beginning of a long NYC subway strike, and some people were able to walk to work in the mild weather.

Actually, that initial wave left over .2" - surprising, but they were big raindrops.

Just a few puddles with this one. More later, I'm sure.

HA, that line is looming and booming right to my west right now. Always appreciate your maps! ADD: Fast mover for sure.

With all of the rain that fell locally, the tree frogs sound happy. I'd thought that they were through for the season, but it isn't so.

Sky News Australia. Enough said.

nothing much here so far light rain. no thunder.

Those rain gods gave me about 0.5". Enough to keep things green a little longer.

Not too cold, or the critters don't sing.
