  1. Wow! That’s really quite something to behold! I have watched the weather for a long time and followed it since the 80’s. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a run like that! And it’s not done! The polar vortex is literally coming into the upper south in these runs! Of course in 1985 we didn’t have pretty model runs with output to see it, but I imagine this is what it would have looked like.
  2. Just had a light “pixie dust” snow shower come through at the house. Enough to lightly dust the rooftops and eves of houses and see on leaves on the ground.
  3. Have had a rain/sleet/snow mix here this afternoon. Was working in Greeneville and drove back in it.
  4. Can verify it held up here as well! Have had 6-8 nice strikes and resulting rumbles.
  5. 18z GFS going for it on the 18th and 19th with an annafront being pushed along by a 1050+ hp. Looks like it covers a good bit of the state.
  6. Man, the flake size has increased tremendously here in the last little bit. It seems that for whatever reason though I can only get a light dusting. I think it’s bc the rates are not holding up long enough to overcome the warm, wet ground. edit: That last band meant business for sure! Some extremely heavy snow. Still could only manage a dusting. So I went up on Crockett Ridge and there was probably between 1/2-1in up there.
  7. Starting to get some mixing here. Temp has fallen from 46 at 6:30 to 36 now. Someone else mentioned 36 was the magic number there. Seems to be the case here too.
  8. That’s cool they live here in Motown! The city in general sits at around 1,350ft. However there are many areas above 1500’. Fun fact about Hamblen Co., the highest point is actually in the middle of town on Crockett’s Ridge. It sits just under 2,000ft at 1,952ft. At that elevation, they definitely get more snow during events, and I’ve seen it where only the last 150-200ft had snow and the rest had nothing.
  9. I always like the RGEM, though it does have its flaws. It seems to do really well in winter for the most part. Hopefully it’s right here!
  10. 15° this morning at the house. I know we’ve seen colder, but it’s pretty cold considering it’s early December. MRX says there’s a chance some areas even outside the mtns in NE TN and SW VA could hit the upper single digits to around 10 with this next front on Friday morning.
  11. Just like that, it’s really coming down now! Temp down to 30 dp up to 28. Nickle and quarter sized flakes! I was hoping for it, but not holding my breath lol. Beginning to get a dusting in the grass
  12. Just started to see some light snow here. Radar looks pretty good for us for the time being. Flakes are pretty good size. The temp is down to 32.
  13. Had some snow flurries and a couple light snow showers in Morristown earlier but now just a scattered flurry or two.
  14. I’m so sorry to hear that DB! Praying for you and your family!
  15. We need one of these systems to actually come through and produce a good rainfall across the area. Yes, we’ve been getting rain, but it’s been falling well short of forecast. Tomorrow’s system is no exception. It was originally a widespread 1-2in rainmaker across the area. Now, we’re looking at 0.25 to 0.50 at most. So far I’ve recorded 1.09in for November and 1in exactly for October. Hopefully that changes at some point in the near future.
  16. Somehow overnight, the temp went up here to 34° now, so it’s all just a rain snow mix now. Must be some WAA or boundary layer issues where I’m at. Oh well, it was fun to watch it while it was falling last night.
  17. Yes! It’s snowing really well! I just stepped out of my son’s basketball game. Mtown East is playing Dobbyns Bennett tonight at Mtown East. Anyway, it’s pouring snow! Trying to form a small dusting in spots!
  18. Had some flurries here about an hour ago but there definitely is a lot of virga at the moment.
  19. Wow that seems really bullish for the northern valley! I guess we will see. I can only assume they are counting on the higher ridge tops in these counties to produce the accumulations.
  20. Wow! Actually getting a bonafide storm with heavy rain and lightning right now! This little cluster of cells just kinda blew up! Edit: Actually picked up 0.64 out of that cell! It almost looks like it morphed into a small MCS. No doubt some places in Greene Co and over near Johnson City will have closer to an inch or more out of this!
  21. So I went to MRX fb page and found the answer. Apparently they are experimenting with the rest of the TN offices this year. They have decided not to issue frost/freeze products unless it occurs outside of the Oct1-April 30th timeframe. That means they basically won’t be issuing any products bc that would be exceptionally rare for it to occur outside of that period. The reasoning was that they felt like it was “confusing” if they issued an advisory or warning and it didn’t actually make it to frost or freezing temperatures. Or that they had to wait until late in the season ala 2016 when it was November 20th. To be fair they said they would still talk about the frost/freezing potential, but just “coloring up” a weather map just to issue an advisory was not something they were going to do anymore. They did say they welcome feedback preferably by email but also welcome to comment on fb too. I don’t really know what to think about it tbh. I think it’s borderline hogwash and reminds me of the old MRX truth be known but that’s my personal opinion.
  22. I agree DB. I saw on Nashville’s website that there was some new products that were going to be issued nationwide, but it said they would still do frost and freeze warnings/advidories. That doesn’t make sense that Tennessee would just opt out of the frost and freeze warning when everyone else is still issuing them.
  23. I was just wondering if the reason the winds died down here in Morristown had to do with the eye moving over. They went almost completely calm but have since picked back up again a little but nothing like a few hrs ago. Lots of trees down here and power is out in places here as well. It is amazing to think that the eye of a tropical system actually made it to and crossed through East TN!
  24. 3.93in since midnight. Combined with the 0.44 yesterday brings me to 4.37 and we’re just getting started. This is easily the most rain I’ve seen in a 24hr period in a very long time!
