  1. Having a home mountain is such an advantage. 100 percent agree on the trails that are icy even if it’s 3” an hour. Every mountain has them. Upper goat at jay, that pitchy spot on t line or right off the mountain triple at Stowe, upper fis at sugarbush, lower east fall at Killington, just to name a few. I find one big advantage is getting around the mountain. I’ll be like “I want to hit this glade or trail one more time” and know I can do it and cut to where I need to be to get home.
  2. No one goes to jay to ski upper goat…you actually seem pretty knowledgeable sometimes, despite the trolling, but this is one of your more ridiculous comments.
  3. Or those with solid medical benefits. Has that been open this year?
  4. You would think I’d say jay, but honestly, I’ve heard great things about the kids programs at smuggs and they do have basically a whole mountain (Morse) dedicated to beginners. I would look to a non epic/ikon with less traffic. Also, I think late season is a great time for kids to learn..less traffic, no frigid northern greens weather and soft snow. Don’t have to spend an hour layering them up either only to hear “dad I’m hot” before you walk out the door into sun zero temps.
  5. Classic upslope enhancement all week with these little clipper disturbances...good call by @Ginx snewx a week or so ago. Like the way it should be in the northern greens. Enjoy your laps, bro. I’m not back for another couple weeks, but pattern doesn’t look terrible through mid-month for us.
  6. Over performers for Jay on all three they are reporting another 6 this morning....the missing upslope magic this season came through, though Friday was anything but beefy. Still, great to see the powder in the woods again. Was almost a guarantee since I’m in Jersey this week. Starting to feel like I have the phin effect on winter. You guys don’t do well with us fake NNE’ers.
  7. Sugarbush didn’t run slidebrook this year due to staffing issues, but I wonder if they would have had enough snow to run it for more than a week or so even if they had the staff with those totals so far?
  8. Great memory and interesting similarity as places in south Jersey are well above average this year while up at Jay and Stowe, struggling to keep out of all time bad territory. That can’t be a coincidence.
  9. Really only one torch day away from being alone with 61.
  10. Seeing it within two inches of the infamous 15-16 and hearing how bare it is near phin really hit home. I think we can still have some decent stretches (maybe next week) but it has become a “pick your days carefully” kind of season. And though I’m sure there will be a couple deep powder days that make us forget, having this little base might bite us late March into early April. Smuggs only scraped together 27 trails today and nothing at that top of Madonna. That’s pretty crazy. Same for jay. I guess we’ll see. I’ll be in Breckinridge the second week of March. It will be interesting to see how they are out west. I haven’t really followed the western season since the early season Tahoe dump.
  11. With most of Vermont only on groomed snowmaking trails right now, I was checking the Mansfield stake data this morning to see how bad it really is right now. It finally set in. Since 1962, only 3 season had less snow at the stake on todays date and all 3 were within two inches. Sixty seasons. I know we’ll get some help tomorrow and next week, but wow.
  12. You’re doing better than up here…bright echoes are south of here just slamming into Mansfield.
  13. Yeah, no joke today. Jay says 80 mph gusts up top and no upper mountain lifts today.
  14. A beefy 8 on Friday, 10 with the first shot and 6 with the second get us two feet in a week and back to good skiing. My hope and prediction. And let’s loose these 50s to single digits for a bit.
  15. Yeah, this is tropical. Days like this make some people put away their skis for the season and focus on spring; forgetting deep winter might be 48 hours away at any given point.
  16. regardless of Friday up here, looks like finally a decent signal for some upslope love next week.
  17. You can borrow my jay peak ruler and be there by the end of next week?
  18. Probably 6-8 at my place; maybe more up high. It’s real tough to tell as it’s blown all over. There was some legit heavy snow for a while this morning. Right after the switch yesterday was just slop for a bit tho.
  19. Did not see this coming at all..probably a solid 6 spot if you add in yesterday, though good luck finding all of it. Another “pulled that out of our ass” snow!
  20. The thaw/freeze yes…but this weekend you have people that are skiing no matter what. “I paid blah blah blah, so we’re going out” where I think an average weekend, maybe people don’t push the conditions on a day like today. And with all that holiday traffic, that grooming has to get skied out quick. Obviously, you have much more experience with this so maybe it’s not as uncommon as I think for it to happen this weekend. Anyway, your mountain ops guys are heros for trying to put this back together for the weekend and the extended looks promising so maybe this is all a distant memory after Friday’s storm.
