I tell ya the poor beech trees have really taken a beating these last few years with that disease going around and of course all this moisture up until recently has been decimating a good number of them in our area. Thankfully, we have a pretty good variety of trees in our heavily wooded area but I feel for those who aren’t as lucky. I can’t help but wonder if that dreaded term climate change is playing a role in some of these anomalies or if perhaps people are just more aware of their surroundings due to social media and those observations are being relayed at an ever faster pace, creating the illusion of doom and gloom. I’ll let the actual experts around here fill in the rest of the devilish details.

Just incredible, we go from dead silent and tropical to gusty winds and a noticeably moister airmass in just a few minutes. Gotta love early summer convection, especially as it happens right in front of you! We could really use a good soaking right now too.

Just sitting out here watching the birds, bees and fat squirrels with a glass of Seagram’s in my hand. Couldn’t ask for a better day to be outdoors, taking in all the sights and sounds of this glorious season. Might head down to the water in a bit once the doggies are fed.

It’s a beautiful scorcher out there today baby! I’m embracing every moment of this sultry delightfulness that has taken hold of our area. Let’s keep this love train going for the next three months!

Day 3 of our sweaty cocfest is about to commence. Let’s goooo!

The epic season of summer yore has just begun. Soon, massive dust clouds interlaced amidst waves of low hanging ozone and haze shall consume us all! This will be one for the record books that even village elders will pass on for many years to come!

Not bad for this time of day. We’re at least a few miles away from this station and practically in the woods/swamps so tack on a couple more degrees and a little more dewiness and we have ourselves a classic early summer day. The bugs have been unbelievable out there me too, even despite the lack of rainfall in recent weeks. Gotta remember to pack the bug spray for my next excursion into the woods.

Yeah I’d honestly have no idea the type of heat that’s coming after a day like today. It almost feels like late April or early May despite the very high sun angle.

Getting some pretty decent banding here as the storm pulls away. What a relief it is to finally get some steady moisture after what seems like two weeks of barely anything. Probably gonna end up with just under an inch on the day. We take before the big bake!

Looks like round two is about to blow through..thank goodness as round one was hardly worth a mention earlier. Let’s get those streams of pollen splashed on angry dog walkers baby!

Caught this big guy at the birdbath earlier trying to get some relief from the stein fest that has taken hold round these parts. Any fellow bird watchers want to chime in and enlighten me as to what exactly this is? My gut is telling me it’s either a raven or a blackbird but honestly I’m not totally sure.

When I think of summer, dps in the 50s and comfortable temps don’t come to mind. If I want that boring, stale crap I wait for the darkening, depressing fall months to descend upon me. It may sound a little strange but a big part of me enjoys the dank, sweaty days of the summer season. If I want, I can simply drive 15 minutes to the beach or even just run around like a madman in a sprinkler without an ounce of shame. And when that’s all set and done, I can walk around in shorts and a tee shirt late in the evening and feel the lightness and pure blissfulness of the warm air around me. Because that’s what a season that I wait nearly 9 months for is all about. And you know what, I wouldn’t have it any other way baby.

A wall of fog literally just rolled in here about a half hour ago. I guess at this point we'll take whatever moisture we can get to keep some of the dust clouds of pollen at bay. Amazing how different it feels compared to this time yesterday.

May 2024 Discussion - Welcome to Severe Season!!!!

Caught a couple turkeys on the prowl in the yard earlier. Probably trying to get a few last munchies in before the downpours start. Amazing how the animals can sense when nasty weather is on the way. Even our little dog has been on edge since this morning! -

Way too much dryness out there right now. We need to get those dews ramped up very soon! My flaky skin demands it. -

It appears our 3-6” rain events are better modeled and are of a much higher likelihood now than 3-6” of frozen granules in the middle of the winter. I eagerly await tips insightful explanation as to how that could possibly be in our neck of the woods in the cc era. To me, it’s just baffling how these crazy rain totals are thrown around like snowfall predictions and it seems as if very few people take notice anymore. -

It twas a solid 75 here and just plain beautiful. I don’t care what time of the year it is..I’ll take weather like this any day and run with it! Shame about the rest of the week but hopefully we can balance things out again at some point. -

Pouring cats and dogs here. Pretty sure I just heard a quick rumble too! -
My desktop pc has literally been stuck at “humid” since last summer, in spite of the prevailing temps. I think all the moisture and dewiness that season caused it to blow an internal fuse or something and now it’s just stuck on that description. It’s pretty damn laughable tbh.

My man I’ve been here most of my life. I’ve never seen so many mosquitoes of this size floating around and breeding this early in the season. I literally live just a couple miles from a swamp so I’m no stranger to bugs and birds of all types but this is just on another level of freakiness. I honestly wouldn’t mind one more quick freeze to kill off some of the early spawns. This season is going to be brutal around here and the mugginess hasn’t even started yet.
-
The May flies were brutal out there today. I couldn’t walk anywhere without getting swarmed by the little pests. I’ve also seen some giant prehistoric looking mosquitoes popping up all along the yard. All this rain we’ve picked up the last 6+ months is clearly starting to yield some interesting results in our swampy neck of the woods.

I agree except we need a little more swampiness in the air to truly get that quintessential New England summer feel.

I for one have grown fond of this perpetual monsoon season and enjoy the occasional trek through the swamps that have become my backyard in recent months. I could not imagine a day without sinking several inches into the lawn as I casually walk my canine companion throughout the land while she meticulously searches for a place to do her naughty business. /s
