Not me! I'm pumped lol

As I'm cruising around my area I'm noticing something interesting. The ice seems elevation dependent. The high area (180' plus the trees) still have a lot of ice. The areas under 150' have nothing left. Their must of been a cold layer about 2000' thick and sitting right above the surface. Above 2000' was the warm layer is my guess.

This was the low keyest pbp ever lol. Shit was smooth lol

Come on lowlands! We got this. I'd gladly take less precip if it means a clean storm. I'd take a clean 2-4 over an 8" slop that melts the same day it falls.
-
I second that.
-
Just heard rolling thunder. Trees are still icy but temp 34. This is much needed rain.
-
Now that it's daylight I'm actually surprised at the amount of ice on the trees this morning. Roads are fine.
-
Great to see much needed rain overnight and this morning. Looks like the heaviest is in Northern Virginia. That’s been the trend this winter. I'm sure there's some ice on branches but more of a beneficial rain than ice event.

I agree. If you missed the January 6th event and long duration snow pack you are probably out of luck for a period of deep winter this season. I think we have a flood potential if we do get a big storm next week. It will likely be followed by warm, heavy rains unlike the January event. I feel lucky to have scored so well in that event. IMO that was the event of the season for the lowlands.

This reminds me of that gfs run about a week before the 2016 monster. Wow! What a fun run. LFG

It's not the fourm. It's the fact that no human or computer has any idea what will happen after day 5. The models are showing basically everything from warm and dry to cold and wet. Hopefully we'll actually have an idea over the next few days. My guts says climo Feb. NW will get snow. 95 east you know the drill.

The day after the 2016 storm was a bluebird 28 degree day. The next day was 70 lol. It was the tail end of a deep winter period that lasted about a week. Other than that stretch of cold it was a pretty mild winter.

Trail conditions at my local hiking spot were terrible yesterday. Greasy mud and half frozen sheets of ice made me thankful for the forecasted rain. I'm ready to start over fresh with another 10" snowstorm.
-
It happened again in September. Three and a half weeks of drizzle and clouds. It was memorable to me because I was trying to not lose my cannabis crop to mold.
-
The wind is here. I'd estimate 40+
-
Soon as I made the comment the wind chimes started going nuts. I need a helmet for my afternoon hike.
-
Where's the wind? It's been really calm under the wind advisory. Just a calm, warm spring day so far.
-
The cold stretch in January with the two minor snow events. The rest of the year was kinda boring weather wise.
-
The CMC says enjoy the wide spread 70's late next week.
-
Yup. The roads are dry and the snow is just contracting. It's been a clean storm from start to finish here lol

January Medium/Long Range: Chasing more snow to close out the month
dailylurker replied to mappy's topic in Mid Atlantic
The Euro has 1"+ rains DC and north this Friday/Saturday. Hopefully that doesn't trend north. -
Some heavy rainers would be nice. I appreciate any kind of weather. If winter is on break then let's get some good rain. We need it. I've had about an inch of precip the entire month.

Looks like 60's are showing up on my point and click. Looks like a break in winter is coming. If anyone is interested in having a commercial or residential building cleaned, the rates are their lowest of the year. Do you have an old, ugly patio or deck? Don't replace it, restore it. We have 25 years of experience and are licensed and insured. Already 32. Today feels like a spring morning compared to what we've had.
-
That was the best storm we had on the 6th. It was just as memorable as some of the HECS we've had. It was a beautiful cold storm followed by cold temps and low sun angle. I'm satisfied with my snowpack duration. I'm ready for more snow even if it's gone by 10am the next day.

I'm thinking about taking a trip to the Tug Hill sometime in early Feb (I'm hoping to catch a lake effect event). My main reason is to check out the extensive snowpack and ride snowmobiles. They have hundreds of miles of groomed trails all over the Tug. I'm actually thinking about staying up there next winter while my business operations are suspended due to winter. Before I start researching, does anyone on here have suggestions, tips, info on that area?
