  1. That storm had the most thunder I've ever seen in my 46 years alive. I remember sitting in the school cafeteria during lunch that day. I remember flashes of lightning coming from these little windows along the upper walls. I remember the thunder shaking the building and it ripping snow around noon that day. Truly an amazing storm. I was in Crownsville MD where we had about 15" in less then 6 hours.
  2. Does anyone remember the president's day storm (November 11th, 1987)? Whenever I hear people say it can't snow and stick in November. I think about that storm and how i was stuck at school until midnight when the local rednecks with their trucks saved us. I remember riding up front in some super loud mudding truck with like 5 kids yelling out direction how to get home. The good ole days when adults didn't care about kids lol. I remember lots of thunder and lightning during that storm. I was in 3rd grade and still remember the evolution and temp profile as the storm progressed.
  3. Best rain since July here. I haven't heard thunder in months. I think i hear the wind coming. Awesome
  4. I'm going to do a detail report from different elevations and slope directions. I'll document it with lots of pictures. I'm going to head out Friday, stay Saturday and drive back Sunday. I'm hoping to get some bluebird shots from the top of the Allegheny Front on Sunday.
  5. Mount Storm is only 3hrs 6mins from my house near Annopoils. The Shoe is over 5. My little shed on the mountain is 77 bucks a night. I think it has electricity, whatever. I'm not there for electricity. I might make it my little getaway cabin all winter.
  6. Mount Storm, where I'm headed for the chase is in the 12-18" zone. Oh boy!! I bet the ridge I'll be on gets 18"+. It's at about 3k feet. The Shoe is 4800 so I'm sure it will be powder at that elevation. I'm thinking about extending my stay and leaving Friday to head out there.
  7. I'm headed for Mount Storm, WV. This is my first chase in WV. I've got a 4wd Tacoma with some weight in the back. I've got a cabin for less then 100$ a night. I'm thinking about extending my stay and heading there Friday if I can get the place. This place is right on the western slopes of the Allegheny Front Range. Perfect location for upslope enhancement. Cloudy and 52
  8. Wow. That was weather porn. That run also crushes the spot I'm headed to in WV this weekend.
  9. My location I'm staying this weekend was just issued a winter storm watch. I nailed the location of this chase. Looks like winds will be a factor and blizzard conditions a real possibility, especially when I'm coming over the Allegheny Front with my Tacoma in 4wd.
  10. I've got 4wd truck with new tires. The cabin is right off a main road so it shouldn't be bad getting out. Getting there Saturday might be interesting. I hope i get snowed in lol. I'm going to be on Mount Storm near Snowy Ridge Road. The names sold me lol
  11. Super pumped! I just booked a cabin just west of Davis, WV. It's on Mount Storm. Right on the western slopes. It looks like I'll be in the jack zone all weekend. I'll be doing lots of hiking and chilling. If anyone what's to meet up and smoke a joint, let me know!
  12. Thanks^ Tropical Tidbits doesn't go out to 384 hours lol. Lock up that look.
  13. I just looked and it's only 4.5 hours drive. The Shoe is definitely in play. Lots of nice hiking trails up there too. Up to 52 degrees
  14. I thought about the Shoe but it's a 6 hour drive from where I live. I'd love to be up there but I'm not sure about the drive yet. We'll see. I'm hoping it trends colder. I'm planning on chasing a lake effect event if one happens. I've always wanted to explore a raging snow banner. I might save the long drive for that adventure. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe if I head up there I'll see ya. Just look for the guy wondering around in the snow smoking a joint.
  15. Mild morning. 51 here. The gfs gives Deep Creek 3 feet of snow next weekend. My plan is to head out there Friday afternoon and get a place to stay for the weekend.
  16. Anyone have any suggestions on places to stay out near Deep Creek? I want to get out there and do some winter hiking during snow events.
  17. Just a few sprinkles and showers here last evening. The ground is still rock hard. The gfs says basically no rain for the next 10 days.
  18. I baked my brain with a hearty indica from the garden. Perfect evening for chilling. Enjoy! Clouds are lowering and thickening and the temp is 52.
  19. Cloudy and chilly here. I have a feeling this precip isn't going to make it past DC today. The drought is definitely the dominant feature here.
  20. Looks and feels like snow. Shame it's just a rain fringe job here. I can't wait until we get a actual rain event here east of DC. I think it's been since July that I've received over a half inch of rain.
  21. 30 Goodnight snakes, ticks and my favorite, chiggers. See you in the spring. Now I can wonder around the woods without paying attention.
  22. Looks like the GFS switched back to the idea that some tropical moisture could join up with a front and give us real rain.
  23. The rain didn't make it through the mulch in my garden area. It didn't do anything.
