  1. I had a family member stuck in Providence for a week-rescued by National Guard. Snow started here about noon Monday 12/6/78. By 2:00 PM it was all out blizzard conditions.
  2. I remember one of the tv weatherpersons saying on 2/7/78 that the storm had stalled. One of my greatest weather event memories.
  3. Hey if it doesn’t snow here can always watch webcams where it is. Just looked at a couple of live cams from Buffalo and Watertown. Just pounding there. Be better watching it outside our windows but always happy to see someone getting it good.
  4. The Grinch paying an early visit here . . . Rain.
  5. Not from Aquidneck Island but I can see it across Mt. Hope Bay. I ended up with about 6 inches. The top 1-2 inches was a frozen layer of sleet. I would imagine most of at least northern part of the island was similar. Maybe less toward Newport.
  6. About 7 inches here. Some mixing overnight cut down accumulations. Some mood flakes all morning.
  7. Fwiw Harv said this morning quiet and cold weekend with a mild up early to mid-week, possible rain just prior to Christmas.
  8. Wind has picked up. Snowfall remains moderate. I normally expect a storm such as this way down here to be post MLK Day. But we take.
  9. Enjoy James. December storms of this kind are rare. I think you will do okay.
  10. I think the models that had a 2nd max in northern Bristol, Plymouth and southern Norfolk counties will verify.
  11. Coming down good. Wind hasn’t ramped up much yet especially compared to last 2 storms. Fingers crossed the taint stays to my south.
  12. 78-79 had a couple of suppressed mid-Atlantic storms. PD 1 buried DC and we had flurries here. When 09-10 happened it brought back bad memories of 78-79.
  13. What was the Enso state the 81-82 winter?? I know you have written about 75-76 as being similar to this year.
  14. Would love to see a repeat of this storm. Very impactful and memorable storm down here. Wind stayed N and NNW avoiding any changeover. https://www.nytimes.com/1981/12/07/us/unpredicted-storm-brings-new-england-up-to-2-feet-of-snow.html My memory was that winter was good overall here and great for CNE and NNE. Had the early April blizzard too. Sent from my iPhone
  15. Strongest quake I’ve ever felt here. FR police reporting some minor damage. I thought it was a gas explosion.
  16. Coming down in buckets now. May be best rains since April.
  17. Anyone experience a bright flash about 11:10 PM? Any reports of meteorites? Lit everything up as I was driving home. No storms in the area. Just lots of low clouds and some drizzle. And no I wasn’t drinking.
  18. Really sad to see Burbank go. I’m old enough to remember when he started at WBZ. I was glad he mentioned that he nailed the 87 April snowstorm. We didn’t get anything here. But I remember he was the only forecaster saying higher elevations were going to get croaked. He nailed the April Fools day storm too.
  19. Channel 5’s website has a very quick look back video on the President’s Day Blizzard of 2003. One of my favorite storms in an overall great winter.
  20. We all know we have our favorite setups in winter depending on geography. SWFEs suck here on the coast. Even with a good “thump”, rain often washes most if not all away. When coastals dominate we are cleaning up while CNE and especially NNE are hurting. So expectations are low here for this weekend. Congratulations NNE and even CNE. Always glad someone is getting the goods.
  21. Coming down real good here. Big flakes. Only accumulating on grass so far.
