-4.9 on the Tempest for the low here in Hillsborough. Second coldest Ive ever experienced.

Id wait until Spring or next August. Ideally you want 10 weeks before frosts to get adequate deep root growth otherwise you are asking for a patch that grows a little this year but is susceptible to disease and drought stress next year. I’ve learned the hard way and started my renovations this year in mid August because of it. The reno areas look great compared to the semi crispy “old grass” areas.

Completely agree. Mid August works, especially if you are seeding with tall fescue. It needs time to take and become well established before the cold weather and cold soil temps. Perennial ryegrass you can wait a little later, but my suggestion is start mid to late August and keep the area watered especially if we get another heat wave. I'm starting my big reno next weekend. Peat moss on top will help retain moisture and hopefully aid in preventing a major washout.

Centered about 10 miles from here. That was crazy. Whole house was shaking for 20 seconds. Definitely felt like it was coming from the direction where it was centered.

Refresher snow & obs between ~midnight and Noon Sat Feb 17 2024

Bring it on. I will say the HRRR and some other models did well on the I-78 death band. Albeit not nearly as much snow was modeled but where it set up was fairly accurate. -

I don’t post often but isn’t there already a climate change thread? I work in the environmental field and know a little about the warming and it’s reality but We have pro mets posting great thoughts about model runs and analysis and it’s getting lost in all the banter.

Sisters house in New Smyrna beach taking on water. Her car is half under water. Parents to the north in Ormond are watching a stormwater pond creep closer to their house. No power. Radar looks very bad. Scary stuff.

And now we have voluntary water restrictions on the odd even schedule here. Definitely a dry Somerset County right now.

Yes it's very crispy here in Hillsborough. I think we had one 0.2" storm two weekends ago and that is it. I've been watering my lawn but it's just not enough and have given up as there is no point in wasting water. Just let the dormancy prevail until we get a change. Sucks for your business though.

I think the school dismissal rationale has to do with putting kids on buses during severe storms. I grew up in GA and we never had early dismissal due to storms but there were several times where we were held at school late due to severe storms and tornadoes. The days of piling into a school hallway and assuming the position is a distant memory. There’s also the liability aspect which is higher these days compared to the 80s and 90s.

Ida type rains here. A little PTSD. Serious lightning too. about 0.5” in 15 mins

Curious when the changeover occurs in Warren County. 11 AM-12 PM? Also curious if the roads will remain just wet since it'll be in the mid 30s or if they become a mess with the heavy rates. We have to load a marching band truck and travel to Central NJ around 12-1 and I think it could be a mess up that way.

What is the professional opinion on ratios with this storm? I realize the high winds cut those ratios down, but as you get further away from the low wouldn't ratios possibly get slightly higher?
