If you had laid the 12-1 to 1-24 H5 plot in front of me last fall and told me to extrapolate over an entire season, I would have called for like 45-55" in Boston. I think that effectively communicates my thoughts on the pattern so far.

You maybe ready for spring by March, but the snowfall still counts.

Since the pattern is not optimal, we are at the mercy of timing nucances..IE n stream streaks blocking storms, and SWs amplifying behind departing arctic air masses. Bad luck. Now, if this continues much longer, then that is a missed forecast because I thought it would start to become very favorable around now.

Obnoxiously maddening....its sucked. But the fact that its been so frustrating, ironically enough, is a sign that there is hope. This isn't one of those awful el nino events....we just haven't had any sensible fruit yet. And again....we are 4 days into the favored period, have had one decent storm, and another possible early next week. Perspective-

I have an extremely hard time buying wall-wall void of NAO during a weak el nino....especially given that it hasn't been a ++AO furnace to date. The pattern has been pedestrian...but the sensible result has been horrendous.

No one excused it...I think every one here thinks that this winter has sucked to date, and been unbelievably frustrating.

I find it hard to believe that we go through the first week of Feb with no NAO...even '07 and '95 went negative.

I'll be fine. Just needed to vent for once. Should get some NAO by February, so we won't be at the mercy of timing nuances, which haven't worked out.
