Itstrainingtime
34 degrees and a winter wonderland. Congrats to Steve and PSUhoffman for getting in on the action today. Gotta go clear off the slush as we await round #2 of #3...
NortheastPAWx
So after 3-4" snow today here, there are prospects for a 6+ snowstorm Wednesday. As noted last thread, my main concern is that WAA is underforecast again and we wind up with more sleet.
paweather
Yes congrats to some of our Northern friends glad to see you in the action and for those missing this one your time is tomorrow night/Wednesday!

Mallow
My Wednesday guess... Snowcast: Sleetcast*: Icecast: Both ptype and amounts are in question, of course, and it wouldn't shock me to see verifications quite different from this, especially in the south-central part of PA. *I also think I overestimated the sleet-to-liquid ratio (was thinking more 5:1 rather than 3:1 for some reason), so maybe cut the sleet accumulations down by about 1/2 or 1/3 to get a more realistic value. canderson
Rather have freezing rain than sleet. I hate sleet.ZR creates serious issues that threaten many lives; sleet is heavy and loud.Never wish for zr. Never.

KPITSnow
Rather have freezing rain than sleet. I hate sleet. Lol, you're insane. I'd rather torch in a cutter to 50 degrees than have freezing rain. Sleet is fine.

Nice maps...agree on the sleet #s...3-4" of sleet is pretty hard to attain. 10" would thrill me. My parents report a storm total of 8" for today in Lebanon County. Sounds like they are reconsidering not buying a snow blower this year after shoveling all of it.
Superstorm
Being in the endless sleet zone in 2007 can bring disdain for it, it is still a much better sounding then freezing rain.

Sounds like they are reconsidering not buying a snow blower this year after shoveling all of it. 9-10" would be awesome... not confident we'll have enough actual liquid to deliver that much just yet, but the Euro definitely pushed me in that direction. The NAM being closer to 0.75" is somewhat concerning, but I think the whole storm is too far north on the NAM, and so I expect the heavy band on the north side to actually be over north-central PA rather than south-central NY. Vogan
What an awesome storm! I ended up with 8.5" of snow and sleet which melted down to 1.21" of liquid. Under normal circumstances this would have been our foot of snow but in this case it was only a 7:1 ratio. I've got some aching muscles to prove it. Be careful what you wish for! Edit: We had some rain before the change over to sleet as well in that total so the ratio will be a bit higher for the snow.
EasternUSWX
GFS is pretty sleety here but, still icy as well. Might pull the ice double barrel shot. 1-2" sleet to .25-.50" freezing rain.

Gotta go clear off the slush as we await round #2 of #3... Thanks! We ended up here with 5.75". Not too bad for a storm that was only supposed to produce 1-2 inches for the immediate area. Festus
Just want to throw in a huge thank you to everyone, especially the experts. I come across as a weather guru at work because of the great information here. Sure beats the media (no offense Allweather).
djr5001
I'm going with 5.9" officially... 3.4" since 7am melted down to .31"... ratio a little over 10:1 which is higher than I expected... that last inch likely changed that... going to melt a core sample and see how much liquid is in the 5.9"
Santa Clause
Mallow dont think we see enough precip for to high of amounts but everything else looks good!!
Laurel Highlands Wx
What a nice surprise here. Was only expecting 1-2. 3.5" was nice. Mom said she measured 4.5" back home. Bringing seasonal total up to 51.5 inches.

MAG5035
Rather have freezing rain than sleet. I hate sleet. Get enough sleet to anchor the pack and it'll be around til the end of March or so if we end up with that weekend storm haha.

Santa Clause
I'm thinking 4 to 7 for both of us Mallow...going with latest qpf and chance of mixing. I'll take it a million times though!! edit: Nam has us both at .7 total so cutting back a bit 5 looks good.
