donsutherland1
Savannah had a low temperature of 70° on December 22, 2013. That is the first time during meteorological or astronomical winter that the temperature did not fall below 70°. The old record high minimum temperature during either meteorological or astronomical winter was 69°, which was achieved on March 21, 1927 and tied on March 20, 1945, March 16, 1990, and December 2, 1991. The previous latest 70° or above low temperature before meteorological and astronomical winter had occurred on November 28, 1990 (70°). The previous earliest 70° or above low temperature after meteorological or astronomical winter had occurred on April 7, 2003 (70°). Savannah's records go back to 1871. GaWx
Thanks, Don. It is a high honor for my hometown to be singled out, but it really is an incredible record to have the highest winter (met. or astron.) minimum in 140 years of records. This is about as major a climo history event as it gets. We're talking the warmest minimum of about 17,000 recorded days!!

MN Transplant
Nice catch, Don. I checked up the road in the Mid-Atlantic, and sure enough BWI set their record and IAD tied theirs. DCA missed due to rain and a river wind. http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/42099-seasonal-records-for-high-minimum-temps-set-at-bwi-and-tied-at-iad/
