CoastalWx
It's like in April/May when everyone has 75/30 while those east of the sea breeze boundary are 60/50. Exactly.

powderfreak
I haven't used a sprinkler all summer and it hasn't rained since Sunday night I've noticed with the high dews combating our ability to cool radiationally, that everything is very damp in the morning whether it rains or not. That morning dew and fog on clear nights has left stuff dripping with moisture at 5-6am.
powderfreak
Exactly. Just now it's the difference between 93/66 like BDL and 88/74 at IJD.

CoastalWx
The thought of someone happily 100 miles from the coast boarding it up is certainly laughable. Well he was expecting 90mph winds from Irene and got 50.
CoastalWx
Just now it's the difference between 93/66 like BDL and 88/74 at IJD. 90/69 now. The boundary does two things. Advects moisture in from the south and allows moisture pooling in the lower levels from less mixing.
CoastalWx
1938. Higher winds here than there FTW I don't think there was much of a difference.
joey2002
1938. Higher winds here than there FTW My grandmother lived in Rockville during the '38 hurricane and their house was fine... just lost a tree in the front yard. Still lives in the same house now. moneypitmike
Yeah, this really blows. Radar coverage from BGM and OKX really doesn't cut it around here. CBS 6 in Albany used to have their own instant doppler radar, but it doesn't appear as if they do anymore. Just watch, there will likely be at least one significant convective outbreak while it's down producing severe weather. Who knows, I wonder if this means we get a 1995 Great Barrington or 1973 West Stockbridge type tornado (both EF-4) around here while it's down? You know how that goes... That blows--at least it's not winter. Was down in CT today. It was a bit warm to say the least outside the Cheesecake Factory in west hartford. Driving up 91 at 4:00p.m. the car was reading 94-95 the whole way up to Greenfield rotary. Dropped to 88* as I approached the Pit. On the Davis, reached a high temp of the day today was 88.5. I'm sure I'll get 90 one of these days...... 81.1/70. Fans in store for tonight.

PSF has failed to hit 90° F yet this year at 1.2K. We have a bunch of 88° F readings, including today. However, I know downtown Pittsfield has reached 90-92° F due to the UHI effect and being about 200' lower. It's rather challenging for this area to break 90° F away from the UHI and above 1K. PSF did it 3 times last summer, 3 times in 2011, 7 times in 2010, and 0 times in 2009.
