JWXnc
Hey Brick, there were snow flurries in Louisburg today from around 12:30-1:30PM. I was worried it might create havoc on the roads. Maybe tomorrow, right?

The time some of their students are on buses is crazy. I went to the first HS on the list and grabbed one of the later, but not the latest, afternoon(evening) stop times. ADAMS FARM PKWY & WESTON DR 6:33 PM 494 Upon further review that could be a late bus. However there are numerous buses with afternoon stops after 5:30. Elementary routes begin at 6:30am. Guilford runs about 600 buses.

jburns
Why because of virga mixed in with rain? They misread it as viagra mixed with rain and figured it would be too hard to stay in school.

I went to the first HS on the list and grabbed one of the later, but not the latest, afternoon(evening) stop times. ADAMS FARM PKWY & WESTON DR 6:33 PM 494 Oh, yeah, I can attest to this. They always are one of the last to react. I don't think a noon closing will do much good here. Even if the precip isn't in yet, it won't be until 2 PM, I would guess, until the last buses finished their run. Guilford County's favorite thing to do is to throw up a 2-hour delay even when it's obvious that they should close only to have them close at the last minute in the morning. I remember during one event in the early 2000s, it was snowing at dawn and we got a couple inches. So, what they did was still have school (despite snow covering the roads during the commute) and then turned around and sent everyone home at 9:30 AM or so. It was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. Even worse, by 2 or 3 PM, when they would have normally let out, the roads were perfectly fine. Where is the precip? If this is suppose to be here tomorrow, is it materializing from thin air? I saw what I thought was a speck of something in LA but that was it. Is this really going to happen at all ya think?
superjames1992
One of our local weathermen just guaranteed us that there would be under a half-inch of accumulations, emphasized the dry air, and stated that this wouldn't be a big deal. superjames1992
I would go to the store right away. LOL! He very well might be right, but I don't think you should really make any guarantees with a storm like this. It could bust either way fairly easily depending on how fast the moisture moves in and how potent the warm nose is. In any case, much of our accumulations will probably be in the form of sleet, and a half-inch of sleet would have major impacts, especially with the NAM and GFS progging 23-26 degrees for us during the storm (crazy temperatures considering this is in the middle of the afternoon). SN_Lover
I wil probably get laughed at for asking this, but do clouds moisten the air? clouds are formed when a particular layer in the atmosphere becomes saturated.

Shawn
Think about a cloud being a little floating pool. The darker the clouds, the more water the cloud is holding. Edit: or they could be dark because of shadows etc. Google has a lot of info. But generally when it's dark and you know rain is around etc.. the water droplets are bigger and absorb more sunlight.
