Yea OK. Windsor Sucks for snow. I bet even the city of Detroit gets 6-7" more a year. Make it simple move up to New Market I have cousin lives there I bet its similar to my place. Gets about 20" more then Detroit. Probably the same there.

Edmonton does not get to many snowfalls of 6"+ I think that area gets a lot 2-4" events and a lot of drys in winter I'm not sure if you would dig that to much. You need action. Like I said go to Quebec or like what Buffalo weather said the south towns of Buffalo.

Even if your in the city where the University of Buffalo is, here is the record 24 hour snowfalls in last 20 or so years.

  • 37.9 inches, Dec. 9-10, 1995
  • 35.4 inches, Dec. 27-28, 2001
  • 29.8 inches, Dec. 26-27, 2001
  • 25.3 inches, Jan. 10-11, 1982
  • 25.2 inches, Dec. 24-25, 2001
  • 24.9 inches, Nov. 20, 2000

We received 82.1 inches of snow in a 5 day period from Monday to Friday back in December of 2001.

There's some obvious slant-sticking going on at the Windsor airport. Some of those differences are ridiculous and there's no climatological reason for it. Even before we had or run of bad luck here in Toronto the last 5 years, Windsor was routinely achieving parity in snowfall with us, or surpassing us.

But at the least it shows that there's no basis for your assumption that Windsor average 6 or 7" less snow than Detroit.

I noticed that today's record highs in Buffalo and Rochester were from December 1894, so I went to the EC data for toronto that month and was surprised by what I found. Look how abnormally mild December was that year, along with all the rain, as opposed to snow. Now look at the deep freeze that came on the 27th and 28th. Seems very smililar to what some weather models are calling for in the immediate post-Christmas period this year. Also, look at the January 1895 data. Quite the turnaround.

I fixed 1997-98 & 1995-96 to include the 3 months of M data on the DTX website....0.1 in Oct 1997....3.6 in Feb 1996...0.1 in Apr 1996. But unfortunately the data for 1996-97 is M, though I est snowfall at 40" or so.

I do admit some of those years at Windsor raise an eyebrow. Though i will say in contrast to the slant sticking at Windsor, I was VERY disappointed in DTWs low measurment in 2003-04 and 2004-05.

Our local ABC affiliate channel 7 lowered the White Christmas prob to 10%. Not a bad call.

They didnt "lower" anything. thats the same graphic theyve been showing for a week! There was absolutely ZERO reasoning for it when it was issued 2 weeks before Christmas. If there is no snowcover following Thursdays storm, THEN they can use that graphic and have it taken seriously.

I agree. It is a shame that the meteorologists don't use much weather knowledge anymore. It is all about politics and computer models.

TV news stations would be absolutely LOST without the NWS. I mean, they wouldnt know the first thing about the weather. Their forecast is directly from the NWS forecast, and yes they DO throw out stats (for DTW) such as temps, rain, snow, etc...but again, it is straight 100% from the NWS website. All they do is fancy up the graphics. Its about presentation, not content.

Another day of solid overcast here. Definitely makes for a wintry feel combined with the bare trees as Josh mentioned.

MLI should break the snowless record.....barely. Have to make it through the day Wed without snow to break the record. If it were to snow sometime on Wed and accumulate that would still tie the record. At this point it looks like enough WAA will be around to keep the precip that falls Wed eve all liquid. That should ensure a new record. Snow definitely looks to accumulate on Thu.

12z NAM completely whiffing on the precip in IL today. Actually looks like it will be a complete fail for this "event". Cold rain for most, but Jacksonville IL reporting -SN with 0.75 visibility. Lincoln IL now reporting light snow as well.

Pretty impressive little wave on the warm side at least. Severe possible as far north as southern IN where a new watch was just hoisted.
