NYCSuburbs
Big time EPO flip on tap. Fortunately it's still not as bad as last year's pattern when the Alaskan PV came and locked itself into place, after all we barely had this type of sustained amplification last fall, although the current cool pattern should be taking a break after Saturday. It doesn't look like any torch pattern either at least for most of next week with the early week storm which should bring a brief surge of warmth on Sunday while bringing at least some cooler air behind it. At this time my thoughts are that October ends up close to average but on the positive side for the NYC area, although I'm still hoping for the possibility that it finally ends up cooler than average, even if barely. Parts of the region which I think includes New Jersey as a whole already spent 18 months or so warmer than average, it's got to end sometime. Sundog
impressive...this pattern would have produced 1-3" of snow yesterday and more the next day and night if it was late January... We had a nice extended light to occasionally moderate rain during the nighttime hours as well. I think a fluffy 2-4 could have been produced. We can only hope that we get waves developing on the back side of cold fronts this winter.
Isotherm
Pretty impressed to see EWR down to 43 this morning. High temp bust for most today - originally progged upper 50s, but clouds rolled in a couple hours after sunrise. Still only 50F and OVC here NW of PHL. earthlight
Surprised there's less talk about what seems to be a short term model discrepancy, even among the higher resolution models. The NAM last night was very amplified and close to the coast but seems to be shifting away from that solution today. Last nights 00z run: http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~fxg1/WRF_0z/f36.gif Latest 18z run: http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~fxg1/WRF_18z/f18.gif And then the much weaker NMM: http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~fxg1/ETAEAST_18z/f21.gif
