Ed Lizard
http://www.americanw...90#entry1763068 Because so many people spend time in the Alaska subforum, and 952 mb storms are a dime a dozen. Edit on second look, that isn't a bad subforum, really...
hm8
Eh sorry didn't mean for that to come across like this thread wasn't necessary. There's just already some discussion and pictures in that thread so I posted a link so people could go look through it. EDIT: Oh and yeah, the central/western is probably the highest quality (and least active...) subforum we have. The Alaska thread is pure gold. GaWx
I wonder if this is the primary reason that the SST anom.'s south of the Aleutians have cooled so much in recent days. Any opinions? Would this cause cooling?
klw
Cool water vapor loop of the storm

Any opinions? Would this cause cooling? Yes, cold water below would easily mix up with a 950SLP.

am19psu
Gotta love the underrated sexiness of intense XTCs. Doesn't count if it didn't happen on the East Coast
baroclinic_instability
A interesting side note, I am currently sitting here in Anchorage with the lowest sea level pressure, 975 hpa, that I have been under the influence of in over 2 years (last time was the epic Octobomb, 2010 when pressure fell to 955 hpa over MN), and it has been calm all night. Terrain influences here dominate the weather.

Drz1111
What's up with the en echelon "line" of storms in the radar image? Shear?
bluewave
This was a very deep low for so early in the season in that region.
Chinook
I am noticing below normal SSTs in the Gulf of Alaska, some slightly above normals south and east of that, and below normals near California. I wonder if this will help set the trend for strong storm tracks (or if storm tracks are mainly unrelated to SSTAs)
