IWXwx
IWX is keeping track of the records at Fort Wayne and South Bend at this link on their website. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=iwx&storyid=80632&source=0 There is also a lot of other pertinent information concerning the March warmth. For example, in 1907, Fort Wayne had 9 consecutive days of 70+ temps and 3 of those were 80+. In addition, that year had 20 days of minimum temps of 32 or lower after March (14 in April and 4 in May) and 10 of those April days hit 28 or lower. dan11295
ILN broke their previous March record by 4 degrees. On the 17th of the month no less. The previous daily record was broken by 22 degrees! I know ILN records only go back to 1920's with a few years missing in the 1930s but thats still rediculous. Many of these records highs today were broken by 8-10 degrees. I know we are not talking about summer heat waves/winter cold snaps that grab more headlines due to higher or lower absolute temperatures, but from a meterological standpoint, we are undoubtedly experiencing an extreme event. Also MSP hit 80 today after just missing it yesterday (earliest 80 for them by 6 days).
