Was a very long night event - Beau Dodson Weather Facebook page - has the events here. We had a tornado move through Ballard and McCracken Counties in west KY with damage - several injuries. We had the sirens going before the storm hit - for those who could hear them. Southern IL was hit hard - a lot of deaths. My nephew got hit by the tornado as it crossed into Massac County - it was weakening - thankfully. Some roof damage and trees down.

Harrisburg, IL was hit by an EF 3 or 4 tornado - will see what Rick Shanklin says once he gets up there. Survey teams are out.

Worried about Friday - looks rough.

From weather Nc:

"AP news alert just hit the iphone, 10 killed in IL town of Harrisburg from storms... Expect a md for central TN shortly, and watch, sig tor values of 2 fixed layer, 3 effective with dp surging into the 60's.

Edit: KSDK picking up on it, 100 injured, between 250-300 structures damaged or destroyed.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0182

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1111 AM CST WED FEB 29 2012

AREAS AFFECTED...WRN AND MIDDLE TN INTO CNTRL KY

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...TORNADO WATCH LIKELY

VALID 291711Z - 291915Z

A NEW TORNADO WATCH WILL LIKELY BE ISSUED PRIOR TO 18Z FOR MUCH OF

TN INTO KY.

A LEADING BROKEN LINE OF STORMS CONTINUES TO AFFECT NWRN TN AND MUCH

OF CNTRL KY WHERE SHEAR REMAINS QUITE FAVORABLE FOR WIDESPREAD

DAMAGING WINDS AND A FEW TORNADOES. RECENTLY...NEW DEVELOPMENT WAS

OCCURRING ON THE SWRN END OF THE LINE...WHERE WARM AND MOIST AIR WAS

BEING LIFTED OVER EXISTING OUTFLOW. STRONG SHEAR IS LIKELY TO ACT ON

THIS CONVECTION AS IT CONTINUES EWD OVER MIDDLE TN.

AS THE SURFACE FRONT SHARPENS AND CONTINUES EWD ACROSS THE MS

RIVER...ENHANCED LIFT SHOULD RESULT IN SOME FURTHER REJUVENATION

WITH NEW DEVELOPMENT. OTHER STORMS WILL LIKELY MATERIALIZE WITH TIME

SWWD ALONG THE FRONT INTO SRN AR AND MS...BUT THEY WILL BE FIGHTING

LESS FAVORABLE LAPSE RATES ALOFT WHICH MAY RESULT IN RELATIVELY A

SLOW BUT STEADY RAMP UP OF SEVERE THREAT.
