I'm don't know enough about what he is saying to really comment on the validity of it but it was a nice video to watch while drinking my coffee this morning. mdsnowlover
according to the long range gfs, even out in fantasy land, we get a lot of rain with this projected pattern, maybe a little light snow, so I dont know how this all come about, but initially I,m not impressed with the pattern change. Just my 2 cents. I realize that the gfs is only good to 180 hrs. but still it shows a lot of rain for us, even close to xmas. If this verifies then what the hell.!!! NorEaster17
Your welcome guys. I like Steve a lot. He doesnt hype one type of weather and he always gives details to what he is seeing. Been following him for a while now and he's pretty much the only one who hasnt changed his winter forecast unlike so many who have made a big turn around. He also has been talking about the "step down" pattern since late October meaning Winter wouldnt come on a switch, it would take a while and we would see back and forth cold / warm bouts. Here's his site. On the right side you can click "Winter Forecast"...It's 90 something pages long but only a few available to the public. http://www.nynjpaweather.com/

usedtobe
I don't see much of a pattern change. Nina's typically have big swings in temperature as the pac ridge shifts from the RPNA patten to a pna pattern for short stretches and as high heights shift into AK. The AO and nao still are strong positive on the ens mean forecasts of both the Euro and GEFS. However, the models differ on the position of the ridge giving a different look in terms of temps. It's not one favorable to snow for the mid atl south of nyc and looks like it may stay that way thru Dec.

We'll see (1) below ave day tomorrow then by TUES start another string of above to much above ave days.
