Organizing Low
Ottawa, the world's snowiest capital, broke a 129 year old record for the latest observed snowfall. This year, a trace (T) of snow was observed on November 17. http://www.climate.weatheroffice.gc.ca/climateData/dailydata_e.html?timeframe=2&Prov=XX&StationID=4337&Year=2011&Month=11&Day=19 That breaks the previous record set on November 15, 1882 when 0.5 inches of snow fell. http://www.climate.weatheroffice.gc.ca/climateData/dailydata_e.html?timeframe=2&Prov=ONT&StationID=4327&dlyRange=1872-03-01|1935-03-31&Year=1882&Month=11&Day=01 Records date back to 1872. Ottawa Blizzard
Sucks dude. Midweek has modest potential though. unfortunately not for us down in the Big Smoke though. I don't know Canuck, i can't help thinking this winter will be a bust. Still, like I said, a similar two day cooldown occurred around November 20-21,1993, and the record for Fairbanks today was set in 1993. big pattern change around Christmas? The good news? The rest of the 1882-83 winter rocked in Ottawa. Cold and snowy. The bad news? Despitet he lack of snow November 1882 averaged quite a bit colder than this current November. Like I've said in the Lakes forum, it seems like 1 out of every 4-5 Ninas is a disappointment here. Considering 10-11, 08-09, 07-08, and 00-01 were all great, we're due for a stinker. That being said, it's still only mid November, so we shouldn't be conceding anything attm.

Krakatau blew its top at the end of August 1883........bet that the following year or two featured plenty of November snow in Ottawa. Not that I'm forecasting such a thing for next year, but you never know.

Bob Chill
These are the types of records that suck to break. Look on the bright side, in my area a T of snow can happen for an entire winter.
Alpha5
So NYC has more snow than Ottawa as of mid-november.
