  4. April break 2022: 11th through 15th used pool 2 days in a row. Monday - 75 opened pool Tuesday - 82 Wednesday - 89 Thursday - 89 Friday - 72
  5. really? wow it's 70 here just a few miles north.
  6. extreme capitalism becomes oligarchy (as we are seeing now). every system becomes corrupt eventually and needs to be cleaned out and a reboot becomes necessary. The main problem with a for profit system is it does not address the harms that corporations do to the environment or to society as a whole. Benefit capitalism addresses that by making companies accountable not just to shareholders but to the environment and to society as a whole. The Nordic nations do that well and have a longer life expectancy and far better health and environment because of it.
  7. In Long Beach today-nice and around 60 but would rather be at home where it’s 75.
  8. Marl Karx haha I like Mark Larx better
  9. May 2022 and last May were both gorgeous here, especially the last half of the month.. 24 of 31 days above 65 degrees each month.
  10. The Sun fuses 600 million tons of hydrogen to helium every second and the helium accumulates like ash in the core. The core gradually shrinks as there’s less hydrogen to burn, but as it shrinks it heats up, and the reaction rate/energy output from the Sun increases and over time the outer envelope of the Sun expands. Interesting stuff. 600 million tons sounds like a lot until you realize the Earth is basically a dot compared to the Sun.
  11. Diff brand, but same idea https://air-pot.com/garden/
  12. Oh it's not even close... This has not been a typical climo April. In fact, if I were being as objectively fair as I can, I'd say that Aprils in general have had some decent stretches in recent years. Bad stretches too... but, it seems the frequency and length of these better periods have been incongruent compared to the much longer termed climo signal from last century. Maybe, maybe not a part of the attribution stuff, but I also submit that May's have almost become proportionately worse. No prediction there - we were talking about the shoulder seasons smearing ... likely a part of that. Currently 74. No cloud. Zip wind. Low DPs.
  13. Pretty damn good agreement that the first third of May will be well below normal with cutoffs nearby...
  14. A glorious stretch this week and next with an ice cube inserted for this Sunday.
  15. me reading the climate change "debate"
  16. Good day to review maps of the Palo Duro Canyon and the limited road crossings. 5% in the Panhandle. 60 hatched gnashing of teeth if one gets stuck missing the show or worse.
  17. Those look either like pineapples or bowsers armor
  18. Today
  19. He's bad for sure. I think CB got him beat though.
  20. The truth is without fossil fuels we would not have our modern civilization. And capitalism is by far the best system humanity has ever conceived (with a realistic chance of being implemented) to help the most people overall. But now we really need to do something about fossil fuels' side effects. Burying our heads in the sand won't make the problem go away. And hoping for the world to unite in some kumbaya moment and move full steam ahead with renewables overnight isn't happening either. Stratospheric aerosols all the way! Doing nothing is not an option and this is a global prolem, not a country one. We should release the aerosols. If countries can release massive amounts of greenhouse gases, then we can release aerosols. What's the difference? We know both alter the climate. So why are greenhouse gases ok to spew but not aerosols? I say let's do it.
  21. Interestingly, my temp has only gone up 1 degree over the past 90 minutes. 77 here. Edit: I see we actually reached 79 earlier but have fallen back since.
  22. I’ve never actually seen one. A guy out on Rte 68 used to sell them.
  23. Yup. It’s been great. Hard to believe I got 6” of snow 11 days ago
  24. Honestly I can't complain much about this season so far. Morch did just that and other then first half of April...we really lucked out. I can't recall such a nice April vacation for the kids.
  25. Wonder if tree species has anything to do with it. I feel like Holden is probably similar climo to you. Like down at my parents, they have lots of oaks and hard maples that don't leaf out for awhile. Here, there are quite a few of those blasted Norways. Those might even be ahead of schedule. I am also now noticing the oaks are starting to break open the buds too. That is also ahead.
