  1. Past hour
  2. That’s exciting! I hope the experiments are successful.
  3. I couldn’t agree more. Nuclear fission technology has advanced to a point that it is absolutely the way to go. Unfortunately countries like Germany would rather burn biomass like trees and have shut down their last remaining reactors. Chernobyl just did so much PR damage. The reality is that a repeat is a near zero chance with current tech. The real hope to stopping climate change in my eyes lies with fusion. The problem is it’s always 20 years out from a viability. Some progress has been made, like more energy output then input in the last few years but it’s just not viable yet. We can only hope we get there before it’s too late.
  4. Yeah definitely some cutoff potential after May 2-3 or so.
  5. Yeah with my phone. I did increase the contrast and zoomed in. It was an especially vivid sunset.
  6. I am legitimately overjoyed to be on the cusp of extended warmth and sun.
  7. I didn't very well. But I think my tolerance for the heat and sun has decreased as I've gotten older. So it wasn't always this bad for me. Plus, again - summer acclimation. I don't acclimate to the heat all of that much, but I do find 70s a lot better in July and August than I do right now. I wonder what it would be like to not need that acclimation and just be normal and like the 70s and the 80s.
  8. I think this one is the image in you radar shot. Is this another one the the West (left)?
  9. Today
  10. Not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, states like Pennsylvania and New York have been greatly harmed by the advent of air conditioning and the anti-labor policies of the southern United States (which have drawn capital southward due to lower wages, less benefits, etc). Moreover, the south was responsible for the death of 400,000 Americans just 160 years ago, the bulk coming from states like New York and Pennsylvania, and have never received appropriate punishment (IMO) for that crime. A great amelioration of the climate of New York and Pennsylvania is ongoing which should be a boon to the region. But instead we are going to block out the sun so that Texas, Arizona, and Florida will be better off. And you know who is going to pay for it? All of us, rather than the lion's share falling on places that stand to benefit the most. We'll probably end up subsidizing their insurance as well. I say let states like Arizona, Texas, Florida etc. handle it. They hate federal involvement anyways - let alone international cooperation. So let them come up with their own solutions.
  11. Looking like we may make a push for one of the warmest spring seasons on record if this continues into May. Currently, sitting in 9th place, with a good chance of making a push for top 5 by the end of April. April will be the third consecutive above normal month at PIT, and 21st out of the last 22 months.
  12. Yep, gotta deal with our London weather stretch. Will gladly take this over late April snow.
  13. No been pretty spring classic imby, no complaints, stretches like this are part of our climo
  14. You would think by the characterization of these threads (March & April) that this has been a cold and miserable spring. In fact, it's been one of the most favored springs on record with excellent planting conditions. By the end of the month, many places should be looking at a top 10 warmest spring season to date. Dayton, Ohio, for instance, where the thread creator resides, is currently in 11th place, which places this season around the 92nd percentile of all years! For the record, 1945 & 1946 were not observed at the airport. Temperatures were quite a bit cooler at the airport site:
  15. Interesting you point that out. This time of year I start periodically checking the hurricane season analogs from Tropical Tidbits, and at the moment the top analog is 2013: ' Of course things will change, but there's definitely a nod towards 2013 right now.

  17. One of the most favored springs in the storied history of this Commonwealth to date. Models show continued warmth into the month of May. I suspect that, by the end of April, most places will be top 5-10, with some of the shorter period of record sites perhaps making a push for warmest spring on record. Outstanding conditions for spring planting. Pittsburgh [9th warmest] DuBois [4th warmest] Bradford [3rd warmest] Harrisburg [13th warmest] Williamsport [9th warmest] Altoona [6th warmest] Reading [6th warmest] Allentown [8th warmest] Philadelphia [8th warmest]
  18. I am a supporter of aerosol injection into the stratosphere. It is suprisingly feasible and not outrageously expensive. I only support it because there is no way that we are not only stopping CO2 emissions, but even reduce them from the atmosphere. The USA is not the world. Most emissions come from China and India. I also want a ton of nuclear plants built. But for some reason environmentalists are against both nuclear and aersol injections. I consider myself a pragmatist. Obviously ideally the world somehow reduces the greenhouse gas levels back to 1880 levels. But that's not happening and we need to do SOMETHING. To me, sitting idle is not an option. And again, we are not the world. We can't solve this on our own, even if we get down to zero emissions in the USA. At the same time, I want do move to renewable as much as possible worldwide so that we don't need to mask the warming effects with annual aerosol injections forever. I am also aware that masking the effects of the warming doesn't make greenhouse gases neutral. They will still acidify the oceans for example. But that's happening anyway, we might as well try to kill the heating effects at least.

  20. Day 6 to 10 warmer than normal over a wide area of the country, and drier than normal. Meanwhile, soil moisture never really recovered many plants are stressed already, and the ground is rather hard and dry in our area.
  21. Speaking of fire I guess...Here's the Lacey Twp fire from over 40 miles away. The smoke plume is huge and is hugging the ground for as far south as I can see. Beast of a fire.
  22. Yeah the only F5 to ever hit PA was during that 85 outbreak
  23. Your italicized comments were not necessary- only to add insult to your previous remarks. I am sorry feel this way. You seem to have a pattern of doing this on other forums too. Anyway you stated the NJ fire was contained in NJ- you could not be more wrong see link below this morning. As far as as fires in the NJ pine barrens as a necessary part of ecology- the Pine Barrens does NOT have the same climate regime as S California. I lived in S. California for ten years and personally dealt with my own brush wildfires. If it they did have the same yearly climatology, S NJ EMS would be better prepared for such a major fire as the one today. Most likely this fire was caused by some knucklehead burning winter debris and not by natural causes like lightning. The Pine Barrens also do not have highly flammable chaparral type vegetation with 18 in of rain per year, just dense evergreen trees and typical underbrush found in our area with 40 in of rain a year. Large wild fires are not normal. https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/jones-wildfire-ocean-county-new-jersey-ocean-township-lacey-township-barnegat-township/4166736/
  24. Look at this, this is going to happen. https://x.com/i/trending/1915031013295878203 UK Set to Experiment with Sun Dimming Against Climate Change Last updated 23 minutes ago The UK Government is reportedly preparing to approve geoengineering experiments aimed at mitigating global warming by reducing sunlight reaching the Earth. These experiments, which might include techniques like aerosol injection and cloud brightening, have sparked a mix of reactions from skepticism to outright opposition on social media. Critics are voicing concerns about the lack of transparency, potential global effects, and the adequacy of these methods in addressing climate change.
