I probably wouldn't expect something too hot. The trend for the last 20 years has been a trough in the east/ridge in the west during the Summertime. Last year that pattern really changed, and I think we will see some year-to-year lingering effects from that this Summer. And the SW, US was +2F over their previous record last Summer! And is going to likely have a hot Spring, so some of that usually comes east +time.. I would at least expect an above average Summer in the east, and maybe comfortably so.

I mean we just had another case where a big rain was just a one off instead of an ushering in of a wet pattern. That’s also been the case since 2023. Also last week’s event had an anti rain force field once you went west of 95.

wow that would be an interesting summer to relive, the July-August couplet was the hottest on record at NYC, 62 days average temperature over 80.0 (off the top of my head I think July averaged 79.7 and August averaged 80.6) in NYC.

I'll give this winter a C for my area. Not a great winter for snow (around 20") but a lot better than the pathetic 8" total from last winter. One good thing was that what snow came down stayed on the ground for a while, unlike the past few. If I were grading based on the winters I grew up with in the 70's, this winter would probably get an F. I've had to adjust my grading scale over the years, otherwise just about every winter would get an F.

You got me thinking, since '79-80 was such a big +PNA Winter. and per CPC, this was record +PNA Winter non-El Nino. So the roll forward does actually have a decent correlation with hot Summer.

I have to check that out, I'm interested in stuff like that-- eastern Long Island has some of the best wineries east of the west coast lol. Central NJ does too I'm sure.

I think @Big Jims Videos last year posted a story about that from his work with News 12 NJ about how 2 years from now the NJ wine will be awesome, or something like that.

dry weather is really good for growing grapes and wine 1993 had some of our best, 2010 must be up there too.

dry spells are fine, as long as it's not a severe drought it's good. I hate excessive rainfall all it does is cause bugs to multiply and pisses me off lol

Look up maps of June-September 1980, the heat began in the SW and expanded northeastward and covered the whole country except for the west coast by July 20th and stuck around until September 20th. Large loss of life in St Louis, 1980 was to St Louis like 1995 was to Chicago. The hottest August on record for NYC and the only August that averaged 80.0 or higher.
