Mount Shasta. haha! The wind speeds are even more crazy then the snowfall amounts.

Faked me out - I'd have guessed Rainier.

Enough snow 6-7 this evening to whiten the ground, looks like 0.1". Unless there's enough additional flakes to add a bit, that will all sublimate during the night, as it's probably about 0.003" LE.

I want to :weenie: j.spins posts when he takes the L.E. of .2" of snow :P

LOL, that’s how I obtain accurate liquid numbers for CoCoRaHS. We’ve talked about it in the forum before, but even in a sheltered location like ours, trying to accurately catch snow in a rain gauge/bucket style setup just doesn’t fly:

In the upslope zone, a significant part of the liquid equivalent can come from these daily snowfalls, so skipping them would definitely underreport the total liquid. On that note, we’re getting toward 4” of snow for the current event, so assuming a snow density similar to what I found earlier (although it’s probably a bit drier with the falling temperatures) it should help out the monthly liquid.

BTV

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM FRIDAY MORNING/...

AS OF 840 PM EST THURSDAY...SO CUSTOMARY AS WE ENTER THE 2012/13

WINTER SEASON ANOTHER TRICKY EVENT ON OUR HANDS. NOT THAT IT`S

COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL BUT POST-FRONTAL CONVERGENCE AND

OROGRAPHIC BLOCKING SIGNATURES HAVE PERSISTED A BIT LONGER THAN

EARLIER INDICATIONS. PER FAIRLY DECENT DP RADAR ESTIMATES AND

SPOTTER/SOCIAL MEDIA REPORTS HAVE ISSUED A NEAR TERM WINTER WX

ADVSY FOR MUCH OF NC/NE VT AND THE DACKS THROUGH MIDNIGHT AND

SHORTLY BEYOND. GENERAL TOTALS 1-4 INCHES ST LAWRENCE/CHAMPLAIN

VALLEYS...DUSTING TO 2 INCHES SRN VT...2-5 INCHES DACKS...AND 3-6

INCHES NC/NE VT WITH LOCALIZED HIGHER AMTS IN FAVORED SPOTS...YOU

KNOW WHO YOU ARE. MUCH DRIER CP AIRMASS LURKING TO THE IMMEDIATE

NORTH/WEST WITH KMSS TD NOW AT 10F...SO AS THIS SAGS SOUTH THIS

EVENING...EXPECT ACTIVITY TO SHUT OFF OR AT LEAST TAPER TO LOWER

INTENSITY LIGHT SNOWS BY MIDNIGHT. 21Z BTV 6KM LOCAL WRF RUN

SHOWING BEST CONSISTENCY ON WHAT IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING AND WHAT

HAS HAPPENED SO FAR SO LEANED MORE HEAVILY IN ITS FAVOR THROUGH

06Z TIME FRAME. REST OF FCST MAINLY UNCHANGED...AND WE MAY NEED TO

RAISE TEMPS UP JUST A TAD FOR THE OVERNIGHT HOURS AS SOME

INDICATIONS THAT CLOUDS MAY LINGER A BIT...ESP CENTRAL AND SOUTH.

Still dumping on lincoln peak webcam. Radar looks impressive.

Pf-curious what elevation setting you use on the wunderground radar and why.

It depends on the event, but for the most part, the composite radar gives by far the best idea of what is falling in the higher elevations above 2,000ft. Below that dry air can cause less precip than the composite would indicate, so then I use some of the lower scans just to make sure its getting to the surface, but they can be misleading pretty quickly past the Spine and are blocked out to a degree by the terrain.

2.75" here in Barre and still snowing. Here is a picture of my dog Kody enjoying the snow, she's actually black lol. She has always loved the snow but at 13 going on 14, this may be her last winter. I hope she has a great one. Excuse the poor quality photo, it was taken with my camera phone in low light.
