CoastalWx Posted October 11, 2012 Share Posted October 11, 2012 Still looks like more troughing in the West/Alaska than we've seen so far this October. I could see a long-term warm-up for much of the country even if the Northeast sees a coastal keeping temperatures cooler. The -PNA isn't going anywhere. Next week, that coastal will probably at least keep high temps near or below for a couple of days anyways. Even with the high overhead, it's not a very warm atmosphere and mixing may be limited. Low temps might not drop much, but I suppose it depends on how much onshore flow we have. Certainly a little cooler than I thought a few days ago, when the coastal wasn't really modeled..or at least further offshore. Monday will be warm, and perhaps later next week...but that is far out and may have a WF hang up to our south. If you believe correlations, a strong MJO wave into p8-1 corresponds to a trough in western Canada and into the west coast this time of year. So, the pattern modeled is what you would expect. People are worried about cold, but I think it is a good thing to see the MJO finally wake up from its coma and swing around rather strongly. Low levels are dry but NW flow upslope is rolling some showers off the mountain. -SN up at the ski resort. Dippin dots falling now...mid 40s temp. This will be a going calm, decoupling thing - where ever does that the most proficiently will be colder in this scenario. That said, winds could be rather light even in the elevations with that high moving straight overhead, so local climo on such matters should be consulted.. CoastalWx Posted October 11, 2012 Share Posted October 11, 2012 John is right in that we sort of lose the real strong CAA after sunset...and we'll be more at the mercy of weaker low level CAA and also loss of daytime heat.
